JICA delegation calls on Acting Chairman of UGC
A-three member delegation from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) called on Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Acting Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh at the latter’s office on 22 May 2019. Mr. Koji Motomori, Senior Representative (Urban Development), JICA, Bangladesh led the delegation.
During the meeting, the delegation informed Professor Yousuf Ali Mollah that Japan International Cooperation Agency is interested to promote higher education and reserch in Bangladesh. With this end in view, it wants to conduct a survey in higher education sector of Bangladesh. A consultative workshop under the auspices of UGC and JICA is expected to be held in June 2019 in Bangladesh. In this regard, the delegation sought cooperation and assistance from UGC.
Professor Yousuf Ali Mollah, in his speech, said that the move will open up a new horizon of higher education and research between Bangladesh and Japan. He observed that University Grants Commission of Bangladesh always welcomes the foreign assistance and cooperation for promotion and internationalization of higher education of Bangladesh.
Terming Japan as the largest development partner in Bangladesh, he observed that this friendly country has been immensely contributing to socio-economic sector including education of Bangladesh.
Profssor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Members, UGC, Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC and Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Director, Private University Division, UGC, among others, were present during meeting.
