IQAC enhances quality of tertiary education: UGC Chairman
University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Chairman Professor Dr. Kazi Shahidullah said that UGC is enhancing its monitoring activities to ensure the quality of tertiary education in the country.
"Quality education depends on high-quality faculties. Faculty members need to improve their knowledge and skills continuously for the wellbeing of the students. Otherwise, they have to face difficulties as UGC is enhancing its monitoring activities," he said while addressing as Chief Guest at a workshop entitled "Status of the IQAC's (Institutional Quality Assurance Cell) at Public Universities: Ways to Step Forward."
UGC arranged the day-long workshop today (09 Sept 2019) at its auditorium to find out the challenges facing the country's public universities and ways to step forward the universities.
The UGC Chairman also urged the university teachers not to give unnecessary GPA 4 or highest GPA in the name of quality enforcement. He said UGC wants to ensure the quality, first. “Because our graduates lacks in quality and skills. Employers became losers for hiring unskilled graduates," he said adding IQAC will play an important role to enhance the quality of tertiary education.
Addressing the programme, UGC Member Professor Dr. Muhammed Alamgir said that IQAC will create a culture of quality tertiary education in the country. "It will help to establish the quality culture of education and research at all public universities which will help to get international recognition of our universities."
He also said UGC is planning to provide budget to the public universities as per their performance. "Public university will get their annual budget following the excellence of teaching, learning and research activities. IQAC will pave the way for improving the research and teaching-learning environment of the university," he added.
UGC Members Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Professor Dr. Md. Sazzad Hossain; UGC Secretary Dr. Md. Khaled, divisional heads of UGC and IQAC's director of different public universities were present on the occasion.
