UGC Chairman urges VC’s to ensure transparency, accountability
University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Chairman Professor Dr. Kazi Shahidullah called upon the vice chancellors of public universities of the country to ensure transparency and accountability.
“It’s now a major issue to ensure transparency and accountability at public universities. We have to remain alert for improving the current situation also,” he said while addressing an evaluation meeting over Annual Performance Agreement (APA).
UGC arranged the meeting to evaluate the activities of public universities of 2018-2019 financial year done under APA at its auditorium on 01 October 2019.
Earlier, UGC signed the APA with public universities under Performance Management Framework Policy of the government to establish good governance and excellence in the higher educational institutions.
Addressing the programme as the Chief Guest, the UGC Chairman also said Registrar is the key person of a university. University’s performance depends on efficient Registrar. In the past, Vice Chancellor largely deepened on Registrar to perform the administrative jobs efficiently.
“At present, a number of universities are being run by the Acting Registrars as the nation faces skilled and talented Registrar,” he added.
In his presidential speech, UGC Member Professor Dr M. Shah Nowaz Ali said a volatile situation is prevailing in public universities. In this situation, the UGC Member urged the Vice Chancellors to discharge their duties accordingly.
Registrars of 46 public universities, high officials from Ministry of Education, UGC and focal points of APA were present on the occasion.
