Honda Foundation plans to offer scholarships for Bangladesh young engineers
Bangladesh Honda Private Limited (BHL) is planning to give the Young Engineers and Scientist’s (Y-E-S) Award to the undergraduate students for the first time in Bangladesh.
BHL plans to introduce Y-E-S Award in Bangladesh through Honda Foundation to encourage and support young engineers and scientists of the country. BHL has shown the interest at a meeting with UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan at UGC on 12 August 2018. A five-member delegation led by Professor Dr. Atsushi SUNAMI, Vice President, National Graduate Institute for policy Studies, Japan & Executive Director of Honda Foundation met UGC Chairman.
The other members of the delegation were Kazuko Matsumoto, Honorary Adviser, Japan Education and Research Support Foundation & Executive Director, Honda Foundation, Yuichiro ISHII, Managing Director & CEO of BHL, Jamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Advisor, BHL and Md. Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury, Senior Executive, HR & Administration of BHL.
Dr. Atsushi said that Honda Foundation will give the award to the undergraduate students in recognition of their outstanding academic performance. UGC has made the facilitator for fostering future leader in the science and technology field. “The value of each scholarship will be US $3,000. It will also provide opportunity to earn graduate degree for the Y-E-S awardees in Japan,” he said.
UGC Chairman said, “Bangladesh has a lot of quality engineering graduates. Our graduates will be benefitted from the opportunity and they will learn a lot of things from our developing partner Japan.”
UGC Members Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Professor Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali; Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Additional Director, ICC, Md. Maksudur Rahman Bhuiyan, Additional Director IMCT Division and Md. Shahin Siraj, Deputy Secretary, Administration Division, UGC, were present.
Honda Foundation was established in December 1977 by donations from the founder of Honda Motor Company. Honda foundation started the Honda Y-E-S Award program in 2006. At this moment, Honda Foundation conducts this YES program in 5 countries- Vietnam, India, Myammer, Cambodia, and Laos.
