UGC Member Prof. Akhtar Hossain emphasizses on quality training in tertiary education
University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Member Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain on Thursday (05 September 2019) said that proper training is needed for ensuring quality of education at tertiary level in the country.
“There is a scarcity of quality education at our educational institutions. Effective training programme is urgently needed to get rid of this situation,” he said.
The UGC Member was addressing as Chief Guest of a foundation training programme for the university officers at UGC. Graduate Training Institute (GTI) of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) is organizing the month-long training course for the entry level officers of 20 public universities. UGC provides financial assistance for the training programme to develop their professional skills.
Professor Akhtar Hossain also said that the country has witnessed a huge expansion of tertiary education over the years. At present, the enrolment at tertiary level stands at almost 40 lakh. But, the educational institutions are not being run properly due to necessary knowledge and skills of the concerned officials.
He urged the university officials to ensure good governance at their workplaces and provide citizen services smoothly.
Chaired by BAU Professor Dr. Mozahar Ali, the prograamme, was addressed, among others, by UGC Members Professor Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali, Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum; and GTI Director Professor M. Mozammel.
UGC Member Professor Dr. Md. Sazzad Hossain was present as Special Guest. A total of 60 participants from different universities are taking part in the training programme.
