UGC approves Tk 8,088.49 crore budget for 45 public universities

 

The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh has approved a budget of Tk 8088.49 crore for country’s 45 public universities in 2019-2020 fiscal year. Of them, Tk 5089.46 crore from revenue budget and rest Tk 2999.03 crore from development budget. Revenue budget 14.45 percent increased than the previous fiscal year.

 

Dhaka University got the highest revenue budget allocation Tk 764.65 crore while Sylhet Medical University got Tk 3.60 crore. Sylhet Medical University for the first time included in the budgetary allocation.

 

Besides, the meeting also approved Tk 50.97 crore for UGC in 2019-2020 fiscal year.

 

The commission approved the budget at its 155th full-commission meeting held at UGC meeting room on 06 May 2019.  UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan presided over the meeting.

 

The meeting also approved the revised budget of Tk 4834.63 crore for the universities and Tk 49.03 crore for UGC for 2018-2019 fiscal year.

 

The commission approved Tk 64.40 crore for research support in 2019-2020 fiscal year. The figure was Tk 62.36 crore in the last fiscal year.

Giasuddin Mian, Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Md. Anowar Hossain, Vice-Chancellor of Jessore Science and Technology University, Professor Dr. Md. Forhad Hossain, Statistic Department of Jahangirnagar University, Professor Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahmed,  Vice-Chancellor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Md. Anowar Khasru Parvez, Treasurer of Pabna Science and Technology University, Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary of UGC, Mafiz Uddin Ahmed, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Divisional Heads of UGC, among other, were present at the meeting.
