UGC Member Prof. Dr. Alamgir urges teachers to conduct research on renewable energy

 

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Jessore University of Science and Technology today (31 July 2019) organized a symposium on ‘sustainable power and energy transition in Bangladesh. The aim of this symposium is to expose the recent advancement and innovations in the vast area of energy and power transition in Bangladesh.

 

Professor Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, Hon’ble Member, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh graced the symposium as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Vice Chancellor, Jashore University of Science and Technology presided over the function.

 

Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sheikh, Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology, Dr. A.S.M. Mojahidul Hoque, Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Mohammad Samsher Ali, Member (Joint Secretary), Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council, were the Special Guests.

 

Professor Dr. M. Shamsul Alam, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Daffodil International University, and Professor Dr. Mohammad Ariful Islam Dean, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), presented key-note papers. Professor Dr. Md. Amzad Hossain, Chairperson of Electrical and Electronics Engineering gave the welcome speech.

 

Addressing the programmme, the UGC Member said that the symposium will help to build an intellectual platform to share ideas and present the latest findings and experiences within the scope of energy and power.

 

Professor Dr. Muhammed Alamgir also stressed to generate power from the renewable energy resources. He urged university teachers to carry out more research on renewable energy so that the government can attain its goal of generating electricity from renewable sources. He also urged the concerned departments and stakeholders to provide financial support to the researchers in this regard.

 

More than 300 participants from different academic and research organizations, government offices, and private sectors took part in the symposium.
